Good question. For me, I would relate it to my sexual addiction. I don’t cheat sexually on my husband. It is more of an energy that I am talking about. I have found a frightened part of my personality that loves attention from other people. I love the excitement of someone being interested in me and in a way letting me know that I am good enough. It is a way for me to feel good and takes my focus away from the pain of powerlessness. My inadequacy (frightened part) doesn’t feel good enough so it looks outside myself for validation. When I stop to feel what lies beneath the initial “high” from the interaction, I can begin to feel the pain I am trying to cover up. I would love to continue this conversation with you or anyone else interested.

Hi Eric,
When I read the chapter on addiction, I felt Gary was writing it for me. I had never before understood that my fear was driving my actions. Once I became aware of my energy centers, I could see how I had been using others to feel better and it opened me to experience a whole new world. I can feel when I or anyone around me has the energy of sexual addiction active and I use those opportunity to learn more about myself. Now, when this energy is active within me, I know that I have a frightened part active and can look deeper into my experiences in the moment and not react to my feelings but learn more about why these feelings are there and what is underneath them. I am so excited to begin to have these conversations with you and others on this board.
