I wanted to share this wonderful video with you, on the roots of violence. Alice Miller, who was a psychologist and world renowned author noted for her books on child abuse by their own parents, wrote: “Almost all small children are smacked during the first three years of life when they begin to walk and to touch objects which may not be touched. This happens at exactly the time when the human brain builds up its structure and should thus learn kindness, truthfulness, and love but never, never cruelty and lies.” I believe the world can benefit from, and become more authentically empowered by, Miller’s insights, because humanity needs to understand where the tendency to be violent, which is so rampant everywhere in the world today, comes from, if we want to begin to eradicate it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2hF2ujCeFw

I might add that this of course also applied to me personally. I have experienced great relief and gratitude when I started to realise where my own tendency to be angry, despondent, even violent at times really came from. This realization was the start of change within me. As Gary has often said, it is important to become aware of your emotions, to dare to feel them, but not to act on them in a destructive fashion. I have experienced that once I start feeling and, importantly, making the connection between my feelings and real events in the past, acting destructively on those feelings is no longer necessary. But it is a process that is on-going, in my case.
