Our focus on attachment during our last APLC call was perfect for me. I knew I had frightened parts active around “doing” Thanksgiving differently. Thanksgiving has been my favorite holiday for many years, enjoying being with extended family, the colors and tastes of the Thanksgiving meal, collecting fall leaves for the table. This year was different, just a small group, with much of our family away. I discovered fearful parts that thought…I don’t even know how to celebrate with just a few of us. Attachment and comfort in the old, familiar traditions. I decided to let go of those attachments on how it should look and instead, focus on being present and appreciating what was. I noticed how easy and meaningful the time I spent with them was.

I have two questions for you… With more holidays coming right up, what attachment is most important for you to let go of this holiday season? What loving part do you want to cultivate? I am setting the intention to let go of attachment to resisting gift giving and cultivate wonder.

Thank you for the questions, Cheryl – and for how you worded the intention you have set. I too resist gift giving and until now I never thought of challenging that by ‘simply’ choosing to cultivate wonder instead. So clear. So powerful. I too now set that intention.

You’ve shown me that I have a frightened part that needs to identify what exactly my resistance is (to anything in my life) and believes I cannot challenge it effectively without first doing that — I can see that is the fp that always wants to work things out in my five-sensory head. Thank you for helping me see that.

With love, Rosalind
