My name is Shah. As a first-generation American, a person of color, and a religious and sexual minority, I have spent much of my life battling complex internal and oppressive external forces. For many years, I struggled to find peace in body and soul. Instead of feeling comfortable in the here and now, I was focused on what had happened in the past or what might potentially happen in the future. My eventual journey toward freedom started with the word “Accept.”

I’ve been blessed to have some amazing experiences in my life so far. But the most transformative experience has been the simple act of accepting and loving myself. This sense of self-acceptance gave me the confidence and motivation needed to change my life on both the personal and professional level. My lived experiences inspired me to dedicate my life to working with adolescents and young adults struggling with substance use and mental health issues. I am here to learn and grow.
